When I was younger, I decided that what I wanted in a partner was someone who understood me completely. Someone who understood all the hardships and suffering I’ve been through in my life. That way, we would connect on a deeper level. I thought I needed someone like me. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

You might be the complete opposite of me. You watch baseball, I watch Modern Family. You wear Hollister-tees, I wear cardigans (religiously). You play computer games, I play the violin. You’re a political science major, I’m a fine artist. But there is such beauty and solace in our differences. You remind me of the parts of life that I always tend to lose touch of. You help me to appreciate the things in life I never bothered to look at before. Unexpectedly, you bring out the best in me. I realize I need someone not like me, someone who can tell me how it is and wake me up from my distorted reality. Someone who reminds me that sometimes, I’m not always right and that my way is flawed.

You are the best pleasant surprise to ever happen to me. Thank you for handling my crazy shit. And for not complaining, and being nothing but supportive in those moments. You probably won’t ever understand me completely. But that’s ohkay, because you do understand how to make me whole, just by being you. You keep my happy and keep me sane. And for that, I love you.
